Dir. Nathan Noyes | Now Streaming On: Shudder | Rating: 3/5

The day is finally here – Dragula Titans premieres tonight on Shudder! To celebrate the occasion, I present to you my thoughts on my least favorite Dragula season so far.
Season 3 has one of the most interesting and yet insufferable casts of Dragula. These personalities clash so harshly that the drama is nonstop and annoying. Serving as a prelude to the ongoing conversation in Season 4 of what makes a drag monster, there is a ton of identity politics in this cast.
Drag, especially the art of the Boulet Brothers, falls in line with queer and antiestablishment culture. It’s an artistic embrace of otherness in one of the most creative ways. Many of these cast members bring powerful stories of facing discrimination, drug addiction, and abuse that add to the cultural lens of Dragula. However, these stories are overshadowed by deep political overtones, in light of this season airing during the wake of the 2020 election.
Another issue I took with this season is the, and dare I say this, tokenization of the gay men through one cast member’s constant rants. I’m not going to even include the cast member’s name because I simply do not want to be attacked by drag stans. Ari Aster’s army of film bois I can handle, but stan culture? No, ma’am.
The point of this critique is: in the world of Dragula I don’t think there should be a divide of which performers do or do not deserve to be on the show. There shouldn’t be this constant rivalry against femme and masc presenting performers and frankly, to insinuate gay men have it easy the performance world is very out of touch.
Is it wrong of me to let this one performer spoil my view of the season? Probably. Have I ever had my top choice from any cast win this show? No. Am I still going to watch, review, and revel in tonight’s release of Titans? Abso-fucking-lutely.
